Synopsis

Among hungry spines and green buffaloes

The European hedgehog, armed with thousands of spines, roams in search of food, while masked garden dormice learn the skills they need to survive. Amid blooming meadows, peonies seduce pollinators like bumblebees and jewel-like beetles, while striped shield bugs and dazzling jumping spiders play out their own dramas of love and strategy.

The spectacular swallowtail butterfly undergoes its miraculous metamorphosis, while venomous oil beetles demonstrate the strange link between toxicity, survival, and the courtship of great bustards. In arid landscapes, the rare and endangered chapa snail emerges only after the rain, while stealthy dwarf mantises and fierce praying mantises reveal both their hunting brilliance and their perilous mating rituals.

As night falls, the deafening chorus of Mediterranean tree frogs fills the wetlands, while swarms of mosquitoes fuel the hunts of Iberia’s many bats, nature’s masters of the night. And in the meadows, tiny leafhoppers, nicknamed “green bison,” display their curious resemblance to giants of another world.

A journey through forests, meadows, deserts, and wetlands, where survival, transformation, and spectacle unfold in the miniature kingdoms of Iberia.
