Life in the most absolute desert only arises under the arms of the Tamarugo.With its deep roots, it is able to extract water from large underground lakes. Present only in the Pampa of the Tamarugal, it is a refuge for a large number of species, and also for the human being, who for millennia has travelled through this dry and saline land. Howev-er, the native Tamarugo is scarce. Used for decades as fuel for the exploitation of ni-trate, today, most of the Tamarugos that exist are in deteriorated artificial plantations.
