Synopsis
We reveal the secret of how fire salamanders have managed to survive within the city of Oviedo (Spain) since its founding in the 8th century. A harsh environment where permanent water bodies, essential for the reproduction of most amphibians, are virtually absent. We explain the history of these urban populations and the myths and legends surrounding these creatures since ancient times.
