Episode 2: FROM SNÆFELLSNES TO LAKE MÝVATN
Where Fire Meets the Sea
The second episode explores the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, a region where volcanic activity has built chains of cones, domes and basaltic lava flows that today rise directly above the Atlantic. Isolated mountains such as Kirkjufell, extensive lava fields, cliffs and volcanic beaches reveal the superposition of successive eruptions and the intense action of marine erosion. Along the coast, sites such as Svörtuloft, Djúpalónssandur, Lóndrangar, Arnarstapi, Rauðfeldsgjá and Ytri Tunga reflect the combined work of waves, wind and ice on ancient volcanic structures, reshaped into arches, sea stacks and coastal platforms, while lava fields such as Berserkjahraun preserve the chaotic morphology of historic eruptions.
