The Queñoa is the tree that grows the highest altitude on the planet. Located in the Altiplano, it lives up to 5200 meters above sea level. In this inhospitable climate, with inclement radiation, the Queñoa feeds on the dew and the sunrise lights. Afterwards, it completely closes its leaflets to avoid evaporation. This way they save their energy and sleep for the rest of the day. Its growth is slow, but it can live up to 800 years. And its wood, dense and tortuous, has been used as an important fuel for the high Andean peoples, but also by ancient mining, making it a scarce resource, in danger today.
