Synopsis

This is the journey of a new generation who use media and technology to bridge the gap between the Middle East and the rest of the world. Central to the documentary is Reza, an Iranian filmmaker who, after being blacklisted by the Islamic Republic is forced to restart his life with his family in Los Angeles. Confronted by language barriers and a fractured network, Reza skills for film editing, empowers him to document the voices of Iranian protesters. His videos went viral globally and protesters sent him footage, voice messages, and firsthand accounts, which he used to create a unique web series called “Diaries of a Revolution”. 

The film examines the impact of social media on a new generation of immigrants seeking a sense of belonging through the digital world. Reza partners with fellow creators to raise awareness for the revolution. Through intimate interviews with these artists, activists, and social media influencers, the film delves into how they use storytelling, technology, and social channels to create a new sense of home. 

Reza’s story is not only about personal growth but also about the power of storytelling and the role of technology and social media in shaping the new world. Through his journey, viewers gain a deeper understanding of the complex political and social issues facing Iran. Ultimately, the film highlights the importance of perseverance, determination, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
